Class of '96, you just got served!

I have a t-shirt collection that is most-impressive. Some of my old shirts go all the way back to sixth grade. Church youth group, dance-line, volleyball, basketball, softball, high school class shirts... just to name a few. These t-shirts are some of my favorite things to wear, even though they are old (sniff, sniff) because after all the years of washing, they are some of the softest and most comfortable things in my wardrobe. Granted, they don't all fit the same these days, but I still squeeze into them on a daily basis. Sad, but nearly everyday I do wear an old t-shirt and sweats, or pants with some type of drawstring. Drawstrings help me to feel better about my muffin-top. Just being honest here.
Somewhere along the way I inherited my older brother's high school t-shirts too. I'm sure I probably stole a couple of them, without his knowing, since his class was so cool and all the hottest guys were in that grade. After all, they were a whole two years older! So, wearing a shirt that said "Class of '96" made me super cool, plus when I wore the shirt to places no one knew me, they might think I was 16 instead of 14... and then I could be even cooler.... like, ice cold-- cool. Funny how time changes things... Now when I wear those shirts I'm all, "Oh, NO! This is my OLDER brother's shirt!! I didn't graduate until '98!" And then I usually sing to myself, "We got spirit! We are great! We're the class of '98!" (Okay, so it's not always just to myself.)
This morning I was proudly donning a shirt compliments of '96... Her Highness was eating her breakfast, and read my shirt aloud...
"Dare to be different.... Class of '96... Need we say more?..... WHAT IN THE WORLD, Momma? What does your shirt mean??"
I tried to give a brief synopsis on class shirts, and that the Class of '96 was trying to make a bold statement. Her Highness was not impressed. So, I went on to explain that this was her Uncle Nick's shirt and how cool I thought I was for wearing it back in the day... how much fun I had playing ball with his girl classmates, and how I had crushes on some of the boys in his grade, only because they were older. "Time flies, and before you know it, you'll be in high school thinking you are too cool for school too."
Her response: "That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Mom, you need new clothes."

Hilarious! I love the old class shirts too but I have not been able to hang on to them like you. somehow matt would end up wearing them and becuase he is a man he would mess them up of course. My fave was the state champ volleyball shirt long sleeve. Hated to let that one go.
Have to say class of 96 did have my fav guy...your brother!

I must comment on Her Highness' missing teeth, she must have a pocket full of $$$, especially if she earned interest off the tooth fairy's delay.ha! Second, she is definitely her Mother's Daugther and then some, ha! She's SO funny, and SO beautiful!

Love, L
p.s. I apologize for taking one of your high school shirts, it was really soft, so I kept it,BUT I ended up wearing a hole in it. SORRY I know how much they mean to you, can you ever forgive me?!

HAHA! *snort*
I'll have to pull coolness rank here because I WAS in the class of 96!!
And I still have a lot of those shirts and college shirts, too.
Funny thing is, I'll wear them every now and again to church youth group and those kids LAUGH- out loud- AT (not with) me. Oh, we are so old to them! Last MILLENIUM old. Jason (hubs) graduated in 93- when some of them were born! AGH!!!
So cool shirts or not, it's totally relative! :)

So funny...and you are going to have your hands full with that girl! I still wear my cheerleading t-shirts (well, the ones that I can still squeeze into) and am just waiting on the day for TJ to ask how in the world those guys ever lifted ME up!

So funny!! I think that should be enough of an excuse to leave the kids with the hubby on Saturday and go buy a great new outfit. At least a new pair of sweets with a matching jacket and t-shirt!

I don't know what cracks me up most, the fact that you are STILL wearing them or the fact that I also saw almost all 5 of you Maynard kids wearing some of them at some time or another. I bet if you, K & K put all your old Ts together, there would not be its equal in all of Springville! It is a good lesson ...it's not the clothes you wear, but the person you are inside...

LOL, I had that catch phrase in my head before you ever got there. That was my most favorite class shirt ever! I think it was Jon Patterson's idea.

Just a little recommendation... Go steal Kate and Kelly's t-shirts... They'll be the ones to make you feel cool now.

Watch out! She told you!! ha ha ha... that's what I love about little kids- they're not afraid to tell you the truth. I had a little Kindergarten student stop in the middle of a temper tantrum to tell me my breath stunk and I needed a mint. Gotta love it!
